{May 30, 2006}   Epcot

Educational Epcot.  What a gorgeous park.  Seriously. It may not have a lot of rides but the place is beautiful.  The gardens…flowers…everything.  We were lucky enough to be there during their garden/flower fest which thrilled my mom.

Do not miss: Mission: SPACE. WOW. It is one of those simulation rides but it is far more real than anything I'd been on before. I almost didn't really enjoy it because it was so intense. As we waited, I kept getting more and more nervous as they repeated "Those who do not like enclosed places or who are claustraphobic may not want to go on this ride". Being a tad claustraphobic, I almost changed my mind. But I proceeded not wanting to lose face with hubby. It was crazy. It really felt like you were experiencing G's (if that's how you call it). Just thinking about it right now makes me feel a tad dizzy and sick to my stomach so I'll move on.

Also not to miss: Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. This is NOT for small children. My daughter was scared and actually thought she was going to get shrunk which I tried hard to not laugh at. I heard other kids crying through the show. It is the best 3-D with sensory things added in to make it feel really real. I didn't get to truly enjoy it as I had to keep holding my daughter and saying "its not real!!!". Thankfully she didn't see the huge 3-d snake or she would have lost it I'm sure.

Disappointing: GM Test Track. The last 10 seconds are the best part of the ride. You test out a car – its brakes, handling, etc. and the last 10 secs you go through a part at around 60-70 mph. It is great but too short. I'm glad we only waited about 15 mins for it. Any longer and I would have considered it a huge waste of time. Turtle Talk with Crush was another silly thing. I didn't sit through it with my daughter but my mom did. Its a little cartoon thing and the kids sit on the floor. I guess she liked it but we waited 20+ mins for it and we had to eventually get out of line to feed my son. If you want to wait in the A/C, go for it.

The rest of Epcot (the countries) is great for just walking through. We had lunch at the Akershus Restaurant so my daughter could meet most of the princesses. The food was ok but her meeting the princesses was awesome. She loved it. She wanted to meet every princess (including Mulan and Pocohantas who are not considered princesses) and succeeded (with help from me – I tracked Snow White and Pocohantas down). If there are other ways for your daughter to meet the princesses, go for it. Otherwise, pony up for the expensive lunch (which did include fabulous deserts).
